Tahquamenon Falls
Tahquamenon Falls, Michigan UP;
This place is really special to me, a sensory overload of sorts, I lose myself in this place. I'm overcome by nature, the sound of roaring water, the cold mist that surrounds you, the smell of the water and trees. It's the first time I ever encountered; musky, brown trout, salmon, smallmouth bass, pike, and brookies all in one day. My mind wanders here and I wander with it, Jon probably can't tell you the number of times he had to get my attention to stay focused on my first musky here. I've fly-fished and hiked this entire painting. I watched that heron feed all day, just setting in that exact spot. I've watched big browns scale those falls with salmon by their side. I've watched the smallies rise and feed in every seam. This is all freehand watercolor on raw wood. I sanded down this 4.5' piece of live edge cedar and painted from memory.
